Cantatrice
-Karen Newhook-MacDonald-
The Cantatrice Ensemble Girls’ Choir is comprised of girls in Grades 7-12 and rehearses on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 pm at Cavalier Drive School in Lower Sackville. This auditioned choir is under the direction of Karen Newhook-MacDonald and is accompanied by Pamela Burton. In communities served by the Cantatrice Ensemble, elementary choirs thrive while young singers then have few opportunities to pursue further choral development. By enabling members to experience a diverse selection of quality choral repertoire from classical to contemporary, the ensemble strives for choral excellence. Due to the support of an active parent executive, the choir has performed locally, nationally and internationally including events such as the Musicfest Canada (ON), Canadian Rocky Mountain Music Festival (AB), Disney Honors Festival (Orlando, Florida), Mid-America Children’s Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall (New York City, New York), Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival (NS), Juvenata! (NS), Rotary Music Festival (NL), Atlantic Band Festival (NS) and David Foster’s “Crescendo” Charity Gala (NS). The choir has been the recipient of many local, provincial and national awards. Auditions for new members will be held in September. Please refer to the choir website https://cantatricens.weebly.com or contact the director at KNewhook-MacDonald@hrce.ca for further information.
