Dartmouth All-City Music offers after school programs for string, band, and choral students. This program is primarily funded through Supplementary Funding; a portion of which is used to enhance the music programs offered in the Halifax Regional School Board.
String instruments: Instruction is offered at all levels, beginning with Grade 4 students. There are presently 3 string orchestras and 2 chamber ensembles rehearsing each week at the Dartmouth Music Centre, as well as after school group lessons at our Dartmouth Music Center site, Astral Drive Elementary and Ash Lee Jefferson. Some Dartmouth elementary schools have lessons scheduled into their regular school hours. New for 2017-18, we have opportunities to learn ukulele, fiddle and guitar!
Band Instruments: The Music Centre has 3 concert bands and 2 jazz bands. These are offered to students who are currently enrolled in their school band programs and would like to meet new challenges and new friends. For more information, please see our Dartmouth All-City Bands pamphlet.
Choral: There are 9 Dartmouth All-City Choirs. Four of them are at our Dartmouth Music Center site at 35 Major Street. There are two others at O'Connell Drive Elementary in Porter's Lake, one at Ash Lee Jefferson Elementary, one at Cavalier Drive Elementary and another at Nelson Whynder Elementary. All of our choirs are auditioned for 2 reasons; one is for vocal placement and the other is because of space limitations. Please browse through the Choral component of our website for more information on each of the choirs to see which is most suited to you, or call us at 902-435-8464.
